Mobile media and mobile web 2.0 projects from Europe and Japan will be discussed and used as case-studies to point at the potential for their applications in the country. Within this analysis Mobile TV, mobile filmmaking, mobile social networks, mobile advertising and mobile blogs will be examined as a catalyst for social change. This transformation of culture and society brought about by mobile media will be examined by means of investigating the wide spread usage of mobile telecommunication, their particular cultural type of usage and their effects on the daily life (as exemplified in mobile banking, mobile news, mobile education, mobile TV or public awareness messages.) Furthermore this paper will forecast which application amongst the new mobile technologies can be accepted as innovative and social responsible in the everyday usage of the Saudi-Arabian people and by the Saudi-Arabian government.
In 2006 mobile phones have outnumbered the volume of film and digital cameras combined and industry research predicts a continuous development for the next years. Yet no industry standards or government policies for the production and consumption of the new emerging video format have been established. In 2000 the first camera phone was introduced in Japan and now more mobile phones than telephone landlines are existing in Japan and most European Countries. Therefore the government policies and ownership structures will need to adapt a flexible, dynamic and mobile model of social communication.
