| Prince Sattam Sponsors the 1st International Conference Communication Technologies and Social Change |
Riyadh – Saudi News Agency His Royal Highness Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Riyadh will sponsor the 1st International Conference for Communication Technologies and Social Change which organized by the Media Department at the College of Arts – King Saud University from 15 – 17 March 2009 at KSU Hamad Aljaser Hall.This has been announced by the Rector of King Saud University Professor Abdullah Abdurrahman Alothman who, on behalf of himself and KSU, expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Royal Highness the Deputy Governor of Riyadh for honoring and sponsoring this conference. In a press release, Professor Alothman went on to say: "The sponsorship of this unique conference by His Royal Highness the Deputy Governor of Riyadh reflects the great attention that the wise leadership of this country pay to such activities. These activities contribute to the efforts of sustainable social development and promote the development plans in the country which are based on the means of technology and modern sciences. At the same time, the sponsorship emphasizes which KSU undertake in this regard." Professor Alothman reiterated the fact that the rulers of this country pay attention to supporting technological and communication activities by all possible means. This attention represents the main pillars of success and the crucial factors of achieving the expected results behind convening such conferences. It also represents an incentive and encouragement for scientific institutions in this country to exert more efforts that boil down to the service of the country and its citizens and achieve the objective of development. KSU Rector indicated that this 1st international conference is a scientific and technological conference that consists of four major themes represented in: introducing modern communication technologies and their role in developing the mass media, the media, social, educational and political effects of these technologies, then the influences of social environment of the use of these technologies in addition to the relationship between communication technologies, cultural identity and knowledge gap. It is considered a unique conference of its kind in the region, which is convened at this level and covers these different aspects that represent the essence of comprehensive development. KSU Rector illustrated that the conference will witness a number of contributions by academics, professionals, specialists, educationalists, media men and technicians and allows for a number of research topics to be put forward for discussion and study. The idea is to form views about these topics in order to develop and activate the positive effect of communication technologies and limit their negative effect. He further indicated that a number of institutions will participate in the conference including the media and sociology departments at Arab universities, Ministry of Culture and Information, Ministry of Social Affairs, media and social associations, governmental agencies concerned with media and sociology, local governmental and private mass media in addition to specialist international and regional personalities. |
